Al termine di una serata durata quasi sei ore si conclude l’edizione 2023 degli MTV Video Music Awards con Taylor Swift che vince tutto
Una nottata interminabile quella dei Video Music Awards di MTV cominciata a mezzanotte – ora italiana – e che si è conclusa solo alle sei quando l’ultimo premio in programma, quello di video dell’anno, è stato assegnato.
Due ore di red carpet e preshow, altre quattro di spettacolo con brani dal vivo, le assegnazioni dei vari Moonman – ufficialmente definito Moon Person secondo il protocollo – con qualche fuori programma ma senza incidenti di rilievo.
Video Music Award, poker di Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift partiva con la bellezza di undici nomination complessive e la prospettiva di vincere molto, se non tutto. Alla fine Anti-Hero l’ha fatta da padrone con quattro trionfi tra le statuette più importanti in assoluto: miglior brano dell’anno, miglior brano pop, miglior regia (tra l’altro della stessa Swift). Con questi quattro titoli la Swift, che non si è esibita sul palco limitandosi a salire e scendere di continuo per ritirare un riconoscimento dietro l’altro, diventa anche la prima artista a centrare un poker di statuette per il video dell’anno.
Un record che per altro toglie a se stessa: visto che fino all’anno scorso era l’unico artista ad averne vinte tre… Ma nel complesso le statuette sono state ben nove su undici… comprese quelle per il miglior live e il miglior album.
Taylor, vestita di nero con un abito molto elegante, ha preso parte allo show in prima fila insieme ai suoi più stretti collaboratori portando sul palco a ritirare il premio anche l’editor e la direttrice della fotografia che hanno condiviso con lei la realizzazione di Anti-Hero. Per lei sono due statuette di Best in Show consecutive…
Anti-Hero era il primo singolo estratto dall’album Midnights, una storia di insicurezze e difficoltà emotive con un ritornello autocritico che recita… Sono io, sono io, il problema, sono io . Anche per questo la Swift ha deciso di prendersi il rischio di girare in prima persona il video ponendosi anche dietro alla macchina da presa su un copione scritto da lei…
Il fatto che questo sia un premio votato dai fan significa moltissimo per me ha detto la cantautrice, 33 anni, ritirando la prima delle quattro statuette.
Gli altri premi: i Maneskin
I Maneskin hanno trionfato nella categoria Best Rock, sbaragliando una concorrenza d’eccezione come quella rappresentata da Muse, Foo Fighters, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers e Linkin Park. Ma misteriosamente il premio non gli è stato consegnato. La band si è esibita sul palco con una travolgente esecuzione del suo ultimo singolo Honey (Are U Coming?) per poi lasciare la scena.
La rapper Ice Spice, in lacrime al momento dell’annuncio è stata nominata la miglior artista esordiente. Gli Stray Kids, una band messa insieme attraverso un reality show, hanno vinto il premio per il miglior progetto K-Pop mentre SZA ha ottenuto il premio per il miglior video R&B con Shirt.
Rema e Selena Gomez hanno vinto il primo VMA per la musica afrobeat per la loro collaborazione Calm Down. Tanti gli artisti che si sono esibiti: Seon ‘Diddy’ Combs ha festeggiato il premio Global Icon, ma la performance più straordinaria è stata senza dubbio quella di Shakira con dieci minuti infuocati per festeggiare il Vanguard Award, una sorta di riconoscimento alla carriera.
Tra gli artisti presenti alla cerimonia, tenutasi al Prudential Center di Newark, nel New Jersey, c’erano anche Demi Lovato, Lil Wayne, che ha aperto la serata, Olivia Rodrigo, la conduttrice Nicki Minaj che ha ritirato un premio per il miglior video hip hop per poi esibersi a sua volta insieme al supergruppo di rapper guidato da Grandmaster Flash, LL Cool J e Run DMC che hanno proposto una maxicompilation cleebrativa per i 50 anni dell’hip hop.
