L’ottantanovesima edizione degli Academy Awards è andata in scena nella notte fra domenica 26 e lunedì 7 febbraio 2017 dal Dolby Theatre di Los Angeles. Ad aprire la serata Justin Timberlake sulle note del successo Can’t Stop the Feeling! (Timberlake, Max Martin e Karl Johan Schuster) che si trova nel film Trolls ed è in nomination come Miglior canzone insieme a Audition (The Fools Who Dream) (Justin Hurwitz, Benj Pasek e Justin Paul) per La La Land, City of Stars (Justin Hurwitz, Benj Pasek, Justin Paul) per La La Land, The Empty Chair (J. Ralph e Sting) per Jim: The James Foley Story, How Far I’ll Go (Lin-Manuel Miranda) per Oceania (Moana).
